Marfa Mystery Lights
Marfa, Texas
January 21, 2007

Marfa Mystery Lights is one of 100 places in the wold where you can see lights that form nightly and are unexplained.

In fact they even made a viewing area to see the lights.

The sunset can be viewd for miles.

It was what Conya would say! "A Kodak moment"

If you look really closely blowing the photo up with a telescope you can see a speck of white light.

The white light is one of the Marfa Lights that are a mystery. They roll down over or dance back and forth. Some say they are car lights, but they have been seen ever since late 1800's when cars are not around. In World War II a old Air Force Base in the field that was open use to bomb the lights with flour and investigate on them the next morning. They found no footprints, tracks of any kind or evidence what was there . I took this photo using a telescope in the rest stop to get closeup to see the lights with my small camera.

I may look small but it's one of several white lights bouncing along the plains

The scenic loop drive of 118 onto 166 gives you 75 miles of views of the surrounding hills and mountains.

You can see still some snow on the mountain tips

We stopped and enjoyed the view with a packed lunch.

You can drive and see flat desert plains and out of no where there will be rock formations.

We arrived in Southwest Texas. We get a great sunset every night looking out our RV.

The sky has amazing colors that you have to open the shades and watch the show.

The show is almost over.

Lake Bistineau State Park
Louisiana
January 2, 2007

On our trip to Dale's next assignment. We decided to stop in as many State Parks and enjoy nature. Lake Bistineau State Park is a State Park we visited one time before, when we were in Louisiana for a assignment. The park is so different in the seasons.

These first five photo's are during January. and the rest are when we visited in the summer. What a difference the season's make. It looks like a total different State Park.

The Louisiana Lake gives you a good feeling of the Bayou's.

Looking down the lake.

The trees are getting some of the buds again.

These photo's are when we were here in the summer of 2002.

You can see the difference when the trees have green leaves.

The same photo as above looking down the lake. What a comparison.

Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park
McCalla, Alabama
January 1, 2007

Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park was out of season, but it still had a lot of trails and things to do. The park is known for the old civil war furnaces they have still in the park to make steel for the war.

Some of the old cabins from the time period.

Dale on the trail to the furnace.

Across the river to the furnace

You can see the building as you cross the bridge.

Another cabin.

The park installed a over hang cover to protect the old firepits.

The other walkway to the other two fire pits from the bridge.

Here we are by one of the firepits

Looking down at the trail.

walking down the hill looking up at the bridge.

Another view.

One of the gears from the mill and paddle wheel.

Back look of the mill. I can see this State Park getting very busy during season. It even has a restaurant thats open year round. It's worth the stop!

Up on a long trail we went to see the old slave cemetary.

Took a picture of a little mushroom on a tree stump. Checking out the closeup photo's ability.

Bridge from the group camping / recreational area to the village.

In the village you can see a  Iron smith on duty making eating utensils.
